Missionary Moments Planning Guide

JUNE 2010

June 6, 2010: Canada--Churches Needed

Morning: JEFF CHRISTOPHERSON is a North American church planting missionary in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Jeff planted his first congregation in Toronto (The Sanctuary) in 2001. God has blessed the church, and as a result, Jeff has set a goal to plant 250 new congregations in Toronto by 2020. With over 50 percent of the population being born outside of Canada and having the lowest church attendance ratio of any English-speaking city in North America, the need for new churches is great. It will take all of us praying and working together through the Cooperative Program (CP) to meet this challenge. Pray that Jeff and LAURA Christopherson will be able to discover and mentor the church plantersneeded for the huge task of reaching Toronto for Christ. Ezra 1:5-6

June 6, 2010: Angolan Baptist Convention

Evening: SCOT and LESLIE MCHANEY work with the Angolan Baptist Convention to reach that southwest African country for Christ – thanks in part to our love for people and commitment to CP. Recently they helped six young men from an eastern province in Angola receive training in church-planting methodologies. These young men returned to their homes and started five new churches and missions. One new group is among the Mbangala people, who have no Bible in their language. Three of the men have now been ordained as pastors — the first Baptist pastors in their district. As many as 200 church planters were trained in a year. As a result, two new people groups heard the story of Jesus, and churches were started among them. Take a moment to thank God for how He is working in Angola, and ask Him to do even more in the days ahead. STATEMENT: It has always been true of God’s people: when in fellowship with God and ready to serve Him, they give willingly.

June 13, 2010: Prayer Needed For More Leaders

Morning: ANTHONY and MISTI SHELTON minister among the most neglected residents of Kampala, Uganda. The abject poor, those living with HIV/AIDS, prisoners, and single, unemployed mothers are among those who come to the country’s capital city searching for a better life. One of the challenges Anthony and Misti face is having enough mature leaders for the approximately 50 house churches in the city. Training new leaders and seeing them sacrifice as they take on new responsibilities are both prayer requests and praises. Jesus reminds us that we will always have the poor with us (Matt. 26:11), and as churches like ours work together through the Cooperative Program (CP), we can meet their physical needs and share the love of Christ, which will meet their greatest need. Pray for this vital ministry this week. Acts 20:35

June 13, 2010: Maintaining the Vision and Mission

Evening: North American missionary KEITH COGBURN serves as Executive Director of the Lakeland Baptist Association in southeast Wisconsin. In his role, Keith helps churches maintain a sense of vision and mission, and helps to coordinate the collective ministry of the churches. In many ways, he is a broker of resources who seeks to be an encourager to pastors and lay leaders while leading them to reach out to their communities. Our commitment to fulfilling the Great Commission through the Cooperative Program (CP) empowers Keith to be salt and light to those living in Wisconsin. Take a moment to add Keith and the lost people living in Wisconsin to your prayer list. S T A T E M E N T One accomplishment and fulfillment that comes through using our money is in helping the helpless. The offering you give through your church helps minister to people in need.

June 20, 2010: Ministering to Resort Visitors and Residents

Morning: TERRY and LYNN DAVIS serve in a beautiful area of the country, ministering to many tourists, students, and residents of Ocean City, Maryland. Many of those are hearing the possibility of an actual relationship with Christ for the first time, thanks in part to our faithful support through the Cooperative Program (CP). As North American missionaries serving the Mid-Atlantic beaches in resort ministries, the Davises are able to minister to many people who can freely discuss the questions they have about the Christian faith and Scriptures. Today, pray for Terry and Lynn as they minister to thousands of resort visitors and residents. Pray that God would make the hearts of the visitors and residents receptive to His message. Proverbs 23:24

June 20, 2010: Marriage Conferences in Mexico

Evening: WORKERS in the Highlands of the state of Jalisco, Mexico, have to drive great distances to provide Christian resources for the people who attend their conferences. They also provide materials for the children who attend with their parents. This area of Mexico is very religious, but also very idolatrous. Every year nine million people come to one of the cities to worship the patron saint. Thanks to our willingness to partner with other churches through CP, these workers have offered marriage and family conferences in this city for over two years. God is moving, and a small group has begun meeting weekly. Pray that the power of God will transform the hearts and lives of people who attend these meetings. The workers already are seeing changes in the lives of some of the people. S T A T E M E N T On this Father’s Day let us who are fathers be good stewards of the responsibilities God has entrusted to us. One part of our stewardship is providing an example for our children in the way we use money and in the way we give our money.

June 27, 2010: Polish Immigrants Living in the UK

Morning: Polish immigrants to the United Kingdom are the primary focus group for church planters DOUGLAS and MARCY SHAW. Poles are more open to the Gospel outside their homeland, and the Shaws are seeing this reflected in their work. After only eight months in the country, they have seen one home church start and are working with several other groups. The home church has between nine and 16 people attending each Sunday, and already their meeting space is packed. Sending missionaries, starting churches, and impacting the lost wherever they live are some of the fruits of our efforts through the Cooperative Program (CP) and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Douglas and Marcy would appreciate your prayers for them and for their ministry among the Polish immigrants living in the UK. Malachi 3:2-8

June 27, 2010: Islands of Micronesia

Evening: Serving as director of missions for Guam Baptist Association, North American missionary JIM DITTY prays for God to send a sweeping revival to this part of the world, as many people claim to be Christians, but are not born-again. With support from churches like yours through CP, Jim works with pastors and other spiritual leaders in the churches, assisting them with discipleship and leadership development in an effort to reach those unbelievers. He also encourages churches to see the great need for more ministries and leads them to start new churches. Jim and his wife, JENNY, need our continued support and our prayers as they strive to share Christ’s love with all the islands of Micronesia. STATEMENT: When God’s people sin, giving is often reduced or eliminated. When we deliberately sin, we miss many of God’s blessings. Robbing God of tithes and offerings is a sin.
